Hot flashes, What You Need to Know

What are the things experienced during a typical hot flash? At the beginning, the upper body will feel a sudden warmth, and some slight reddening of the face and neck. The body’s natural cooling mechanism which is perspiration, will allow the body to control the sudden rise of temperature. The speed sometimes causes the chill felt after a hot flash, which for some women, is non existent, or some may feel the chill alone without the flash.

The specific cause of hot flashes is not yet confirmed. There is only an established connection between the declining estrogen levels and this symptom, and for some reason, is worsened by stress, heavy alcohol, cigarette smoking, and many other factors. These flashes are logically disruptive and disturbing, but are medically harmless. Having hot flashes does not equate to having a medical problem, nor do they cause medical problems. It is considered as a state one goes through during menopause, and should be acted upon when the daily routine is altered, or the health is affected.
