Hot flashes across the borders
Hot flashes are portrayed as a seemingly persistent ache that is felt even before it occurs. There has been countless protocols in dealing with this said condition before, during and the aftermath of it. Depression, domestic conflicts, different kinds of therapies, books and so on have originated in the idea of aging, hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause are the harbingers of this bad news in most women. And so it seems.
A study was dedicated in terms of the cultural influences that could be leading to the social perspective the community projects on the idea of menopause. 70 Filipino and 70 Australian women, aging 43-73 where the subjects of two year and 11month long study about their experiences as pre-menopausal and post-menopausal women. The 140 women of the two countries where told to record their physical, emotional, and social daily events which are in relation of this particular phase of their womanhood.
The course of the scientific and psychosocial endeavor, the conclusion forked in two extremes. In terms of the Australian women one third of the population in the study interjected that there is a great complexity in general terms of the aging. It had significant impact in terms of their self-worth, confidence and general physical condition. On the other hand, the Filipino women welcome this process of life even the night sweats and hot flashes. They are looking forward for the intangible benefits that they will reap from the physical losses that are bound to occur. These include the respect and the wisdom that the society would honor them for the age they posses.
Like the Mayan women, their Filipino counterparts are embraced because the society is oriented that menopause is a normal process, while most western countries, such as Australia are engaged with the idea that it is unfavorable to be old and youth is attainable if you want it enough.
