The 5 Common Symptoms of Menopause
Menopausal symptoms affect more than 60% of women who are approaching menopause. The most common symptoms recorded are Hot flashes, night swears, irregular periods, loss of libido, and vaginal dryness. The few who have not yet experienced these, or are just beginning to undergo these symptoms have a vague idea of the following, but it is important to be aware of the symptoms themselves, to know the possible menopause treatments.
1. Hot flashes
A sudden rise in temperature, sensation of warmth that spreads over the body causing redness in the face and upper body is what women usually consider as the onset of menopause. Hot flashes are caused by a decreased supply of the estrogen hormone. Most experience a gradual rise, and then cessation of the hot flash symptom, but for others, the ovaries stop estrogen production abruptly, possibly due to surgery. For the latter, the hot flashes are roller coaster rides, a hot and cold version of mood swings.
2. Night Sweats
Considered as a cousin of hot flashes, night sweats are also sudden surges of heat, but typically more intense, and occurs at night. It is also known as nocturnal hyperhydosis, which is not actually a sleeping disorder, but a common perspiration disorder that occurs during sleep, and sometimes due to menopause.
3. Irregular Periods
Menstrual irregularities are common for those in the mid-forties, as they begin to approach menopause. Once again, the lack of hormonal balance, and the decrease in estrogen production is the main cause of this problem. Periods may come more frequently, or less frequently, then be absent the next month. It may last for a shorter time, and then go on forever.
4. Loss of Libido
The loss of libido is caused by a multiple of factors that even some doctors cannot point. There is a typical framework for the peaks and valleys of sexual desire, but occasionally, a hormonal imbalance, as in menopause, or drugs affect, or increase this sex drive.
5. Vaginal dryness
Because of the drop in estrogen, the soft lining in this area dries and becomes less elastic. Sex becomes uncomfortable and women are usually more prone to infections since it becomes easily irritated.
