Hot Flashes, Am I More Prone?
Are some women actually more prone to hot flashes during menopause, or are all these a myth?
The truth is, there are some factors that lead to some women, being more likely to suffer from hot flashes than others. A very obvious example is women who have had their ovaries surgically removed. Hot flashes in their case are more intense as compared to others. This is because the estrogen drop is more sudden and extreme as compared to others. Since estrogen imbalance is the main cause for this menopause symptom, the flashes are more frequent, as well as severe.
Another factor easily taken for granted is weight. Thin women are actually more like to suffer from hot flushes, than the heavier women. The reason for this is fat. After menopause, when the body no longer produces estrogen, heavier women can rely on their fat. Fat produces a certain type of estrogen named estrone. Since heavier women have more fat, their body can still produce minimal amount of estrone which helps them prevent, or at least lessen the force of their hot flashes.
